Walking holidays in Europe: Our walking packages

We offer you an accompanied walk 5 days a week, giving you one day free to relax, walk or explore alone, or perhaps visit the capital Ljubljana, or medieval Skofja Loka. Our guided walking takes in some of the finest views in Europe. We mainly follow paths through woodland and meadows to upland alpine pastures with fantastic views and exceptional flowers and walks generally last around 6-7 hours including stops for refreshments, picnic lunch, etc.

Alternatively, you may choose to explore independently using the extensive range of well signed paths and routes, and we provide route cards and maps for walks leaving straight from the door - there is a wide range of walking to suit most people who want to explore alone, from steep, challenging walks to gentle strolls. Or you may choose to just relax and unwind, go flower watching, or stroll to a mountain hut for a few cold beers before falling asleep in the sun - the choice is yours!

Accompanied walking holiday in Europe with Walk Slovenia

The walks are accompanied by Urška, Žana or Luka. We are all locals in Slovenia and speak excellent English and will provide a great insight into the Slovene people, culture and way of life.

Some walks leave from the door, allowing a completely relaxing holiday experience. To get a change of scenery, we also transport you in our own air-conditioned minibus to other beautiful walks a short distance away. Stunning, pristine countryside awaits you in one of the few areas of Europe where you can walk all day without visual or noise pollution, in peaceful, beautiful rolling hills and upland meadows, unchanged for centuries.

Besides a profusion of beautiful and unusual flowers (especially through the month of May where there are many rare orchids) and lots of butterflies in the summer months, a wide range of wildlife live in these hills, including chamois, deer, martens, and numerous birds including several interesting species such as peregrines, nutcrackers, Alpine choughs and capercaillie. Red backed shrikes, black redstarts and lesser spotted woodpeckers are among the many birds to be found in our orchard. Guests will also gain an understanding of the history of the area, which formed the Italian border between the wars and has many interesting remnants of the old fortifications.

Some walks pass farms where you can taste traditional local produce, and glimpse a way of life unchanged for centuries. During the walks where possible we stop for refreshments at mountain huts or with friendly farmers, so you get a chance to meet some local people and taste traditional Slovenian specialities, also possible on your free evening.  In this way you see a way of life which has long since disappeared in most of Europe, with old fashioned hospitality and courtesy at the top of the agenda. Sometimes there are no convenient farms or huts to visit so we always provide you with a picnic lunch to take with you on walking days. Whenever possible, we also visit local craftsmen to show you the traditional arts and crafts which are still carried out in the area.

On return to the hotel, tea is served. Afterwards, relax in our large outdoor jacuzzi filled with mountain spring water, have a nap in your room or in a quiet corner of the garden, or look up the birds, wildlife and flowers spotted during the day.

Please note we do not accept children under the age of 14 years, due to the nature of the hotel and the unsuitability of the walking for children. Please advise us before booking if you are over the age of 70 or if you have any health issues so we can discuss the suitability of the holiday for you.
