As a treat for you and your family this Easter, we are delighted to offer a special Easter package for a family walking holiday. A family walking holiday in Slovenia is a great way to explore the country. Walking in the foothills of the Slovenian Alps is an adventure full of interesting surroundings for everyone (including the children) to enjoy. Our moderate walks are at the easternmost end of the Julian Alps which means lots of sun and fun for the family this Easter!
We know that every family is different, so we are offering a choice of family guided walks and destinations to suit everyone this Easter. Your children will have limitless opportunities to learn about wildlife, help with map reading and splash about in streams while you take in the breathtaking views!

Most of the walks are on well-marked paths and treks, through woodland, upland meadows and on high rounded hilltops (up to nearly 1700m). Paths are good, but some are steep in places as we are in the foothills of the Julian Alps.
This is walking in Europe at its most varied and beautiful, so why not have a look at some of our guided walks and perhaps this will be your 2017 Easter vacation with the family.
Easter Walking Programs
Walk on the hills of Soriška Planina and visit Lake Bled (half-day walk)
Lajnar on Soriška planina
This hike is moderate and is a half-day trek for you and your family. To begin, we drive in our very own minibus to the top of the mountain pass at Soriska Planina. On this walk, we will be walking at a high level at the top of the mountain, along a ridge connecting four different peaks in a semi-circle. We will be high above the ski slopes of Soriska Planina with glorious panoramic views of our surroundings.
During Easter and spring time, you will notice pretty Alpine flowers covering these meadows. We will show you the most spectacular views overlooking the Alps in the National Park and on a clear day we can see Italy and Austria- that is something cool to show the children!
We then drive down to Lake Bled, where there is a choice of walking around the perimeter of the lake, climbing to a look-out point (for the iconic photos of the island in the shimmering blue lake), or just relaxing. Here perhaps the children can enjoy a slice of the famous Bled cream cake while the adults sip on a cold beer overlooking the lake before returning to the hotel.

A Historical walk around the bunker line starting from Gorenja vas
Trekking from the local town of Gorenja Vas, we will guide you and your family through the woods to follow the line of bunkers which were part of the Rupnik Line, (a line of fortifications and weapons installations that was constructed against imposing danger of invasions). We can show you the mid-war defences that were built on the border between Italy and Slovenia before the territory was returned to Slovenia. At the end of our circular walk, we visit Hrastov gric, a hill where we can visit a system of 700 meters of the tunnel and underground caves built for supplying the defensive line- so much exploring and learning for the children on this hike!
Activities other than hiking to enjoy this Easter
Visit Unesco site Idrija: walk along Idrijca river and Divje jezero lake, a tour in the now closed mercury mines

This walk and tour will entertain the children!
Visiting the second largest mercury mine in the world is a very unique and pleasant experience. Get to know the mysterious underground world in Anthony's Shaft - dwarf, himself! He used to tease the miners, sometimes show them the way to rich ore deposits, but mostly just made himself heard in the distant pits digging his own ore. Apart from visiting the mine, we will also have a shorter walk near Idrijca river and stop at Divje jezero, a karst lake, with a complex underground system of syphons.
Visit the world famous Postojna cave and Predjama castle

The Predjama Castle is perched up in the middle of a vertical cliff above the cave and its underground tunnels used to offer a refuge to a number of inhabitants, including the famous knight Erazem of Predjama. Nowadays, the castle is featured among the Guinness World Records as the largest cave castle… Postojna cave features a fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries and halls, the astonishing diversity of Karst features as well as easy access. This is certainly the main reasons for such popularity of the cave and a large number of visitors, which has already reached 35 million in 200 years.

Rock climbing trip to Lake Bohinj

Lake Bohinj is a stunning glacial lake, which is worth a visit by itself. On the hill just of the banks of the lake, there is a sport climbing crag suitable for beginners, and this includes children! We will provide equipment and offer safe and happy climbing.
