Our Walking Packages
We offer you an accompanied walk 5 days a week, giving you one day free to relax, walk or explore alone, or join an excursion, perhaps to the capital Ljubljana or beautiful Lake Bled. Our walks mainly follow paths through woodland and meadows to upland alpine pastures with fantastic views and exceptional flowers, and generally last around 5 hours including stops for refreshments, lunch, etc. Alternatively you may choose to explore independently using the extensive range of well signed paths and routes, and we provide you with detailed walk guides for routes leaving straight from the door. Or, on the other hand, you may choose to just relax and unwind, take a book from our library and laze the day away under a tree in the orchard, enjoying the beautiful surroundings, go flower watching, stroll to a mountain hut for a few cold beers before falling asleep in an alpine meadow… the choice is yours!
Most walks leave from the door, avoiding the hassle of relying on public transport, and allowing a completely relaxing holiday experience. To get a change of scenery, we cab also transport you to other beautiful walks a short distance away. Stunning, pristine countryside awaits you in one of the few areas of Europe where you can walk all day without visual or noise pollution, in peaceful, beautiful rolling hills and upland meadows, unchanged for centuries. Sarah, trained as a Walking Group Leader and with many years of walking experience, has lived and walked here for 3 years and will take you on her favourite walks, including part of the famous E7 trans-European long distance path and following a section of the Rupnik Line, where a chain of forts were built in the 1930s by the Slovenian army along the old Slovenian-Italian border. Besides many beautiful and unusual flowers and butterflies, a huge range of wildlife live in these hills, including chamois, deer, martens, and numerous birds including several interesting species such as nutcrackers and capercaillie.
Many walks pass farms where you can taste traditional local produce, and see craftsmen at work, such as woodcarvers, beekeepers and charcoal burners, glimpsing a way of life unchanged for centuries. During the walks where possible we stop for refreshments and lunches at mountain huts or with friendly farmers, so you get a chance to meet some local people and taste traditional Slovenian cooking. In this way you see a way of life which has long since disappeared in most of Europe, with old fashioned hospitality and courtesy at the top of the agenda. Where there are no convenient farms or huts to visit we provide you with a tasty packed lunch.
On return to the hotel, tea is served. Afterwards, relax in our large outdoor jacuzzi filled with mountain spring water, have a nap in your room or in a quiet corner of the garden, or look up the birds, wildlife and flowers spotted during the day.
