Our Walking Packages

We offer you an accompanied walk 5 days a week, giving you one day free to relax, walk or explore alone, or perhaps visit  the capital Ljubljana, or medieval Skofja Loka. Our walks mainly follow paths through woodland and meadows to upland alpine pastures with fantastic v iews and exceptional flowers, and generally last around 5 hours including stops for refreshments, picnic lunch, etc.

Alternatively you may choose to explore independently using the extensive range of well signed paths and routes, and we provide you with detailed  walk guides for routes leaving straight from the door. There is a wide range of walking available locally to cater for everyone, from those wanting steep, challenging routes to gentle walks. On the other hand, you may choose to just relax and unwind, take a book from our library and laze the day away under a tree in the orchard, enjoying the beautiful surroundings, go flower watching, stroll to a mountain hut for a few cold beers before falling asleep in an alpine meadow… the choice is yours!

Several walks leave from the door, allowing a completely relaxing holiday experience. To get a change of scenery, we also transport in our own air-conditioned minibus you to other beautiful walks a short distance away. Stunning, pristine countryside awaits you in one of the few areas of Europe where you can walk all day without visual or noise pollution, in peaceful, beautiful rolling hills and upland meadows, unchanged for centuries. Sarah, trained at Plas y Brenin as a Walking Group Leader and with many years of walking experience,  has lived and walked here for 4 years and will take you on her favourite walks, including part of the famous E7 trans-European long distance path and following a section of the Rupnik Line, where a chain of forts were built in the 1930s by the Slovenian army along the old Slovenian-Italian border. Besides many beautiful and unusual flowers and butterflies, a wide range of wildlife live in these hills, including chamois, deer, martens, and numerous birds including several interesting species such as nutcrackers and capercaillie.

Some walks pass farms where you can taste traditional local produce, and glimpse a way of life unchanged for centuries. During the walks where possible we stop for refreshments at mountain huts or with friendly farmers, so you get a chance to meet some local people and taste traditional Slovenian specialities, also possible on your free evening.  In this way you see a way of life which has long since disappeared in most of Europe, with old fashioned hospitality and courtesy at the top of the agenda. Sometimes there are no convenient farms or huts to visit so we also provide you with a tasty picnic lunch to take with you on walking days.

On return to the hotel, tea is served. Afterwards, relax in our large outdoor jacuzzi filled with mountain spring water, have a nap in your room or in a quiet corner of the garden, or look up the birds, wildlife and flowers spotted during the day.

Please note we do not accept children under the age of 16 years, due to the nature of the hotel and the unsuitabliity of the walking for children.
