The Restaurant
We believe that delicious food is an essential part of a good holiday, so our menu changes daily to reflect the produce available and the changing seasons. We have a large, organic fruit and vegetable garden and orchard, which form the basis of our seasonal produce (please note that as we are at 900 metres above sea level, our seasonal crops are geneally later than can be expected in England). We source as much of our other food as possible from local organic farmers and local specialist shops.
We pride ourselves on offering delicious, balanced menus using best quality local ingredients and prepared with care and skill in our own kitchens. Eating with beautiful hand made cutlery and on fine bone china further adds to the enjoyment of your meals.
To accompany dinner, we offer our own label Slovenian wine (included in the holiday price). This is carefully chosen and blended by Keith from a selection of wines from a small Slovenian family estate, Lisjak, in the Vipava Valley, southern Slovenia. Keith blends both white and red wines from well known grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc as well as local grape varieties such as Malvasia, producing excellent quality house wines for our guests to enjoy.
Every day starts in a civilized way, with tea or coffee facilities in your room, followed by:
Breakfast: Help yourself from a selection of fresh fruit, juices, homemade muesli and other cereals, seeds, dried fruit and nuts, yoghurts, toast, homemade jams and preserves, and a cooked dish of the day, accompanied of course by a selection of teas and cafetiere coffee.
Lunch and refreshments during the day: Filled rolls, fruit, chocolate and muesli bars are prepared for you on walking days, and drinks and snacks may be purchased en route in a mountain restaurant or farmhouse on most of our walks, giving you an insight into traditional Slovenian specialities.
Tea: On return home, enjoy freshly baked cake or scones with tea, coffee or home made elderflower or other fruit cordials, served on the terrace if you wish.
Cold beers, wine and a range of soft drinks are available 24 hours a day from our “honesty” bar.
Dinner: This is a highlight of the day starting with a pre-dinner drink and canapés, and followed by three delicious courses, including a main course choice with a vegetarian (not vegan) option. Complimentary quality house wine flows freely during dinner followed by a choice of liqueurs made from our own fruit schnapps. One night a week the restaurant is closed (on Wednesday) and we organise a traditional Slovenian dinner at a local organic farm, which is a great experience (not included).
Please note that we regret we are unable to cater for special diets, other than vegetarians (who eat normal dairy produce and eggs) Any food allergies etc should be communicated to prior to booking, when we will confirm if we are able to accommodate your requirements.
