The Restaurant

We believe that delicious food is an essential part of a good holiday, so our menu changes daily to reflect the produce available and the changing seasons. We have a large, organic fruit and vegetable garden and orchard, which form the basis of our seasonal produce (please note that as we are at 900 metres above sea level, our seasonal crops are geneally later than can be expected in England). We source as much of our other food as possible from local organic farmers, and our meat is reared locally in the hills.

We pride ourselves on offering delicious, balanced menus using best quality local ingredients and prepared with care and skill in our own kitchens. Eating with beautiful hand made cutlery and on fine bone china further adds to the enjoyment of your meals.

Every day starts in a civilized way, with tea or coffee brought to your room on request, followed by:

Breakfast: Help yourself from a selection of fresh fruit (from the garden in season), juices, cereals, seeds and nuts, yoghurts, ham, cheese, freshly baked bread, jams and preserves, and a cooked breakfast, accompanied of course by a selection of teas and coffee.

For those guests going out for the day, we will happily fill your flasks with fresh spring water, tea, coffee or sports drinks. Snacks and a range of canned and bottled drinks are available 24 hours a day from our “honesty” bar.

Lunch and refreshments during the day: If you join an accompanied walk, these are normally packed for you, or taken en route in a mountain restaurant or farmhouse, giving you an insight into traditional Slovenian specialities. You only pay for your own drinks. If you would like to explore independently, we will provide a packed lunch free of charge, or the chef will make a light meal for those who are at the house at lunchtime.

Tea: On return home, enjoy freshly baked cakes, biscuits or scones with home made iced lemonade, tea or coffee, served on the terrace if you wish. In cooler weather hot chocolate and Slovenian “cooked wine” are also served (all free of charge), so you can warm yourself thoroughly in front of the log fire!

Dinner is a highlight, starting with a pre-dinner drink and canapés, and followed by three or four delicious courses, including a vegetarian option. Complimentary house wine flows freely during dinner, and a selection of interesting white, red and sparkling wines from Slovenia and elsewhere are also available from our cellar at a modest extra charge. We also serve a small range of beers, spirits etc.

Dinner is followed by coffee, chocolates and a choice of  liqueurs made from our own fruit schnapps.
