Well, a short update after the holidays is needed to keep in touch! Thanks for the many Christmas cards and emails we received wishing us well and asking about Keith's knee operation - we're pleased to say it's been a great success He now has 2 weeks physiotherapy in a Slovenian spa (included in the superb health care here)but he's already scampering around the countryside and even threatening to lead a walk or two this year - escape from the kitchen! Of course that means I will be let loose to cook for our guests on at least one day a week - you have been warned!!
Meanwhile I've been researching some new walks for our guided walking holidays; Mojca has sadly left us to concentrate on her career as a lawyer but we've found an excellent replacement who will help lead the walks this year. Neza was born just down the valley and has walked in the local hills since childhood and also has a degree in tourism (and is studying for a Master's degree). She speaks excellent English and has been showing me some new routes that she knows. One (at least) is so good it's made it onto the main programme - a walk to Porezen, a fabulous walk on a high hill with superb views of the National Park. We still have 3 more new walks to visit/re-visit together so should have plenty to keep guests on our walking holidays occupied this year!
Here in the foothills of the Julian Alps winter has truly arrived, it's snowing as I write and about half a meter is due to fall over the next couple of days. We wish you all a happy and healthy 2013 and look forward to seeing many of you again in Slovenia this season.
